Jump Creek and a Half Up Fishtail Halo

A few weeks ago our good friends took us to this neat spot, Jump Creek.  It has a beautiful waterfall nestled into some equally beautiful trees. It was a fun little hike, and Viv loved playing in the water!

I love these outdoor adventures with my little family!

I filmed a tutorial for this half up fishtail halo hairstyle I’m wearing.  To watch it, click here!

Loose Waves

Loose waves are my go-to hairstyle because they make a great base for other styles, and they are so easy to wear.  Even in bad weather or if it is windy outside! Just looks like you meant for them to be all crazy.  With the right techniques, also, my curls will last for days!  I am still on the hunt for a thermal curling spray that isn’t crunchy or sticky, yet actually holds curls, but I have yet to find one I like.  I’ll keep you posted if I do! For now, I use Smooth and Seal by Sexy Hair to prep my hair before curling.  That product has my heart.  I’m obsessed.  Next, I start from the bottom of my hair and section off about a third of it.  Clip the top hair out of the way so you have clean sections. Once you have curled the bottom section, let down another one and clip the rest out of the way.  The cleaner you can make your sections, the better.  Then you won’t miss any hair and have straight pieces all over.  More than any product or technique I have used, curling my hair with a flat iron is hands down my favorite method.  It gives me control over how curly or loose I want it, as well as holding my curl longest.  Just a warning, if you haven’t curled with a flat iron before, it’s going to take practice! Keep trying, you will get better and faster.  I can now curl my hair in 1/3 of the time it used to take me with a curling iron. I’m working on a video for flat iron curls so you can see how I do mine. I’m still learning about video editing and all that jazz, so it takes me a while to make one, but I’ll get it up as soon as I can.  In the meantime, play around with it, and check out these products if you want! Once I have my hair curled how I want, I hairspray and use Flip it Over spray wax to create separation.  Don’t use very much! It will ruin everything.  Just a little here and there at the very end.  Good luck!

Day 4 Eliminate and Enhance: Pull Through Braid

Day 4! Today I’m going to show you a simple pull through braid that is great for any occasion.  I love it for working out because it stays tight, unlike other braids.  Let me know if you have any questions!

1. Make two ponytails.

IMG_4656

2. Split the first ponytail in half.

IMG_4657

3. Pull the second pony through the split and clip it out of the way.

IMG_4658 IMG_4660

4. Make a third ponytail and include the hair from the first ponytail.

IMG_4663

5. Unclip the second pony.  It now becomes the first.  Split it in half, and repeat the steps again as many times as you want.

6. Once you have braided as far as you like, begin to loosen the sections.

Pull and adjust until you see fit!

The end. Have a wonderful day!

Bling and a Braid

So I have this incredibly beautiful friend.  Her name is BreAna Thomas.  Check out her blog here if you want some beauty and fashion inspiration.  Just be prepared that she is perfect, but here is the kicker…she is also the sweetest ever! I love hanging out with her and our husbands get along just as well as us girls do, which makes them the best kind of friends to have.  She is also an amazing photographer and we decided to do an impromptu photo session to highlight some jewelry I got from the Rambler Boutique.  They now have a website, so check that out here as well! I did a neutral makeup look for this including one of my favorite new lipsticks from Clinique.  It’s called Beige Pop.  I find myself wearing it almost everyday because it goes with everything! Preschool Graduation

I’m always surprised at how fast time flies. You’d think I could come to expect it by now, but it still catches me off guard.  My little Myla has now officially graduated from preschool and is heading to Kindergarten next year! Crazy.  Part of me feels like she has been a teenager her whole life, and the other part still wants to carry her around on my hip everywhere I go.  She is charming, witty, intelligent, adorable, etc… I really could go on forever. I’m a fan.  So grateful to have this little babe in my life!

She asked me to make her “a b c” cookies for her last day as VIP so we came up with these.  Her requests are getting more and more labor intensive, haha, but she is worth it, right…?

So Much Wind

So I have had these pictures for a couple months and haven’t posted them because of my own insecurities. For starters, my babe was only a couple months old, so I was still getting used to my shape. Also, a golden retriever bit my upper lip when I was nine years old, and even though I had multiple surgeries in the years following, I can still see the scars and imperfections.  Of course, there are other things, but those are what stand out to me here.  However, recently I have been working on letting go of some of my insecurities and embracing imperfection. I think that allows for more honest and meaningful connection with others, such as my family, and with God.  Since those things are far more important to me, I’m moving forward in my efforts to embrace imperfection! I know it’s a process, but that is why it’s worth it.

I owe it to my wonderful photographer, Hannah Swenson, to post these because she is amazing! The wind was crazy! Hair was everywhere.  I have a lot of hair anyway, but add crazy curls and it’s all over the place haha. To get these curls, I wrapped my hair around a one inch curling iron in all different directions.  The goal was for it to look unkempt and free.  If you are ever going for this look just add lots of hair product and lots of wind!

French and Pull Through Braid Wrap Around

Myla loves getting her hair done.  Well, actually… she loves the bribes I give her to hold still while I do her hair, but kind of the same thing ha.  She is so funny.  I don’t understand how so much personality can fit into such a little body.  Always posing and making jokes, I love her.  I will be posting her hairstyles every now and then because she is too cute to leave out.

Step by Step Bubble Braid

Wow! This is way overdue, sorry. I’m in charge of a big camping trip for the teen girls at church and it’s taking a lot of my free time. We are going week after next, though, so I hope it all magically comes together by then and ends up being a wonderful experience for everyone. After that, I’m planning to be a lot more regular in my posts, including sharing a lot of my favorite beauty products. I’m a total product junkie, and I can’t wait to share!

Well, back to the topic of the day…the bubble braid! This is one of my go-to styles because it is so quick and easy, yet looks really neat. I’m posting this as a step by step, so if you find it hard to follow and have questions, let me know!

First, gather all your hair to one side and secure with elastic.  I like to pull all my hair tight and smooth, then pull out pieces around my face and adjust the volume on the top after I put in the elastic.

IMG_2205 IMG_2211

Next, move an inch or two down from the first elastic and add another one.  Depending on how thick your hair is, or the length of it, you may need to adjust to make the gap between a little smaller than this.

IMG_2214

Then split the gap between the two elastics in half.  Flip the bottom of your ponytail through the gap, keeping it tight and smooth.

IMG_2216 IMG_2217

Move down another couple inches (the same distance you did on the first gap) and add an elastic.  Repeat the previous step, splitting the gap and flipping the lower part of your pony through.

IMG_2221 IMG_2225

Based on preference, and if length permits, repeat again.

IMG_2230

Now begin to gently loosen the sections, one at a time. I find that when I start to loosen the hair, I can pull quite a bit, but once it has started to loosen, I switch and just use my pointer finger and thumb to pull small sections.

There you have it! Let me know if you give it a try!
